Medical Card/GP Visit Card

Under 8 years

All children, under the age of 8 years who have a valid doctor visit card can avail of free care from their GP. You must apply to the HSE to receive your card. Simply log onto https://www2.hse.ie/services/schemes-allowances/gp-visit-cards/under-8s/

70 years and older

All adults aged 70 and older are eligible for a Doctor Visit card. You must apply to the HSE to receive your card. Simply log onto https://www2.hse.ie/services/schemes-allowances/gp-visit-cards/over-70s/

If you do not have a valid GP visit or Medical Card here will be a fee for nurse and doctor consultations.
Unfortunately there are many services which the HSE do not cover under this Scheme. These will incur a fee.
Some examples are listed below:

  • Travel vaccinations
  • Blood tests or investigations
  • Passport/Identity reports
  • Driving licence medicals
  • Insurance medicals/reports
  • Sports medicals/reports
  • Testamentary capacity/Power of attorney
  • Letters in support of applications for services under the Social Welfare Acts (Housing, Clothing).
